Zaiwa (宰瓦)

  • Zǎi wa (宰瓦): «zai wa is sung when we carry the wood to build the houses; most of our houses are built with wood. Everyone must carry just one wood by himself, and everyone sing: men sing their own part and women sing their own part. We can hear all of them singing together; this is our “lamuliao” [“pull the wood”] song » (Yu Kan La, personal communication, Manxi village, 2017).
